Family history is certainly a very good lesson in patience! I have read messages from people who say they joined GR and bibbity bobbity boo they had instant family tree. Not me - I have recently trawled through films at the LMA and found births at St James CLerkenwell in 1824, Now I have a address so I can go back to the Family Records Centre and look up the 1841 census. It is as though I get grains of information, one at a time! For those who were interested in the organ builders story I have found Swan Lane on the edge of the Thames at London Bridge. It seems they sold barrel organs to ship's captains who bought them to make the crew dance and exercise on board! Does anyone know where to find info on old companies?

I think some old company records are held at Kew. You could give them a ring & enquire if they have the one your looking for & if you cant get there then someone may look up for you if you post to the records office thread with all the details you have. Good luck Shirley

Hi Jennifer On the plus side, when you have to dig for every scrap of information you tend to remember the details better. Heather:-)

Jennifer You are in the majority - we've all ordered certs that don't help us forward/got home to discover we need to go back to the same records office and check something else/realised we've been following the wrong family for 50 years. People who get instant results are either extremely lucky or not doing it properly. nell
