I am fairly new to genealogy and am wondering which I should subscribe to. I do not think I can afford both. My local library in Huddersfield has bmd indexes up to 1992. If I go for ancestry can I pay without a credit card. Any advice will be welcome Thanks David |

Hi David If you can easily access the bmd's at your library then I don't think 1837online can offer you more than you can view for free, especially now that 1861 census is included on ancestry as well. I only have a debit card which worked to join ancestry although I have heard that you can arrange to pay by cheque. Maybe someone else can better advise on that one if there's no obvious instruction on the site! Lou |

My husband bought me an annual subscription to Ancestry for our wedding anniversary last year, and it's definitely been worth every penny (in my humble opinion!). I've now subscribed for a second year. I've found loads of useful information on the site, and another thing I find rather nice is that you can print of images of the actual census pages. Mandy :) |

You could opt to pay £6.99 which allows you to see 20 images on Ancestry. If you find it useful, you can upgrade to a full subscription. nell |

Apart from this site, ancestry is the best one to use. |

I'd definitely go for Ancestry if I were you, and at the moment there is 20% off the subscription if you go to www.ancestry(.)co.uk/yft The annual subscription may seem expensive but with the 20% off it works out at little more than £1 a week and you can use the site 24 hours a day if you want to (my hubby thinks I very nearly do!!!) 1837online is fine if you're lazy like me and can't be bothered to go to the library, but you'll get more use out of Ancestry.
