Parish records are in the relevant - in your case Essex, Chelmsford - records office, usually on microfilm or fiche. Some family history societies have indexes or transcripts of various registers and I believe there may be some available on CD. Bear in mind that most go back to the 15/1600s though, so there are a lot to trawl through. You also don't get the details you get on certs after 1837 either. In the case of my gt gt grandfather's baptism in Chelmsford it just says Dec 1812 John son of John Smoothy and Elizabeth no exact date, no maiden name for Elizabeth, no occupation for John, no idea of where they were living! nell

I have come to the point where I need to look at parish records for Great Parndon in Essex. Is there somewhere I can buy a copy of the parish records or am I asking a silly question? Regards, Jackie
