Laziness or another GR quirk?

Thanks peeps! I must admit I haven't tried to add any ancestors since the new tree came into force. I've heard so many people saying that they couldn't add theirs so I haven't bothered! lol. The drop down menu thingy would certainly explain it Jeanette x

With the new family tree system when you start to type a place of birth sometimes a drop down menu of place names starting with those letters appears eg 'Newm' brings up Newmarket etc. I think the problem arises if the required place name is top of the list (or the only one) whoever is entering it thinks Oh right its there already and clicks to upload data but in fact unless you first click to select the placename all you upload is the letters you've typed. PS I learned this the hard way the other evening :-) Judith

Hi Jeanette One or two people have mentioned this, I think they begin to type the placename, GR gives options, they click on the one they want only to find that GR has only registered the first few letters. So probably a problem with GR. Heather

I'm pretty sure it's been done automatically by GR, but I'm not sure if it comes from loading a GEDCOM or when they convert the old format tree into the new one. Kate.

I have just been looking through Name Summary to see if any new names match mine. While I was there I notcied some of the places of birth had been shortened, eg. With, Sun, Maid, etc. Is this a new quirk of GR's that happens when you upload a Gedcom? Or are people just being lazy and can't be bothered to type the full place name in? If it's the latter, then you might as well not bother really because it could be any number of places and it's about as helpful as no birthplace at all! Moan over! Jeanette x
