on 1901 census Charles W. says born Froufield, Hants. Can't find any trace of this place. On 1891 census says born in Newbury, Berkshire, so am totally confused! Lyn

Where did Charles W say he was born. In1871 there is a Charles W, with grandparents, born in Messing, Essex. ???

Thanks Jess, can't find any trace of marriage between Edward Woodland (b.1867 Westminster) and Emma (b.1863 Clapham), listed on 1901 census. If I'm not pushing my luck too far, also cannot find any trace of Charles W. French (c.1869) prior to his marriage to Blanche Bartlett in 1888. Wedding cert showsfather as Willilam but Charles shows different birth places on 1901 and 1891 census, one of which doesn't exist! Hope this is enough information. Many thanks Lyn

You could throw us the actual fact that you are stuck with and maybe 'different eyes' would help. Jess

Freebmd is not yet complete. But the complete GRO indexes are available online at www*1837online*com - remove * and replace with . This is pay per view and you have to download a djvu viewer to read them. Alternatively, the GRO indexes are accessible on microfiche at various libraries and records offices. BUT I know of various events that happened that are NOT in the GRO indexes, so its not 100% accurate. Sometimes you can get what you want by applying directly to the relevant local register office. nell

Hi everyone, I am relatively new at this and most of the information I have managed to find so far has come from census returns on Ancestry and Free BMD. Have had some great success on certain branches of my tree but have reached some brickwalls e.g no trace of marriage between G grandparents, no trace of another G grandfather prior to marriage. Are there any other places that I could search? Grateful for any tips, many thanks.
