Could someone tell me please if it's possible to find a spouse's maiden name other than having to apply for a marriage certificate when only the groom's surname is known? Thank you, Audrey |

Unless you havea pretty good idea of where and when the Marriage took place, the grooms name and the christian name of his wife (in later census perhaps) Then Yes, it is possible to hazzard a reasonable guess sometimes, backed up with the obvious one above |

Audrey, tell us what you know on the thread here by adding a reply. You have her on a census - which one and where. What is her married name, any children etc, when we know the names and places we can help you more |

I have tried tracing people on different census's and have sometimes found a relative staying with them or a child staying with grandmother. My great grandmother was kind enough to have her brother staying on census night. Sometimes it helps to look at the children's middle names. You generally need to find the marriage reference to be sure. |
