This is the address: http://www.a2a.org.uk/ This does not have the original documents BUT it tells you which records are held where. It is England only, there is a Welsh version, I shall try to find the addy for that too. You can look for particular kinds of document ie workhouse registers, or you can search on a placename or a person's name - though this works best with an unusual surname of course. Example of how it helped in my research - ie typed in my gt gt gt grandfather's name Robert Chowns. Up came details of quarter-sessions in Buckinghamshire. Knew he lived in Bucks so that looked promising. It told me where the document was held and a reference number. So exactly a year ago last year my husband took me off to Aylesbury and we ordered the document. Found it was about Robert's settlement dispute between the parish where he was living and the one where he was born. The witness statement he made gave me a wealth of information about how much rent he paid, what he did for a living, how the ceiling of his house had collapsed, how he'd lived with his father-in-law for a bit, father-in-law's employer's name etc etc. nell

I know it has been mentioned before but give this site a try. Just put in family name, nothing else and see how many hits you get. Do not ignore Records of Sun Life they often give names and addresses and other details. Good Luck I hope you find some ancestors. I just put in a family name and found 1861 hits.Regards Irene
