I wonder if Gustav has Sarah upstairs in a rocking chair....shades of the film 'Psycho'

Jim - if you follow Julia through to the 1910 census (she is a servant in Pennsylvania) her parents are German/English. It has to be the same family on the 1880 amd 1900 but I just can't work Sarah out........both the death record and the grave say she died ibn 1887!! wrt the 1871 arrival - is it possible he left the country and returned, or is it another Gustav??? Peter

Thelma Report 18 Aug 2005 10:49

So as this date of arrival is different, does this mean at least two Gustav's? New York Passenger Lists, 1851-1891 Viewing record 1 of 1 match for: Gustav Krafft « Global Search Results Name Arrival Date Estimated Birth Year Gender Port of Departure Place of Origin Destination Ship Name View Image Gustav Krafft 27 Sep 1871 1834 Male Hamburg, Germany and Le Havre, France Germany United States of America Cimbria

This gets harder and harder - Woodland Cemetery, Stamford Fairfield Co CT Krafft Gustav A US Navy b 1835 (in Germany) died 1906 Flag Krafft Sarah (3rd wife of Gustav A Krafft b 1846 (England) died 1887 Krafft Charles E b 1876 died 1881 Also I have a record for Sarah Krafft d 29 8 1887 in Stamford of anaemic Coma/Chronic Brights disease.... The 1900 census appears totally inconsistent with what I have earlier Transcript of 1900 census in Ancestry says GAK immigrated in 1862 which matches my GAK's disappearance from England Peter in NZ

This gets stranger and stranger as I have a death for Sarah before 1900!! I suppose it is possible he remarried another Sarah.....especially as the ages and countries of birth don't match...... Despondent Peter in NZ

Where do I get American BC's? Problem is I don't know where, when or if a marriage took place. It just seems suspicious to me that I have lost a Gustav Adolf Krafft (b Germany)in England (married my gg-grandmother 1856in Colchester, had a daughter Jan 1859. This daughter and an earlier son (his???) Christened with him as father 1866. Can't find GAK on any census (craft/croft are alternative spellings). There are very few Krafft's in England and to find one in the states with the right christian names and an ENGLISH wife seems like too much of a coincidence. Somehow I have got to sort this out!!! You should be able to obtain bmd certs for this branch of the family, which hopefully would prove the connection. nell

In the 1880 Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut USA census is a family consisting of Gustav A Krafft (45, gardner b Germany), Sarah Krafft (wife 33 b England) and their children Minnie 8, William 6 Charles 4 and Frederick 2 - all b CT) I suspect (with no proof whatsoever) that Gustav is my gg-grandfather who disappeared from England about 1870.... I believe that this GAK is buried in Stamford and that his grave says he was in the US navy. Where do I go from here?? Peter in New Zealand
