Hi. My nan was born in the Willesden Workhouse in 1916 and was sent to live with an aunt. We know about her mum, but would be very interested to see her medical records at the time. Has anyone ever gone about finding the medical and any other records to a relative in a workhouse? |

Hi Robyne I had to request permission from the Freedom of Information Department at Liverpool University Hospital, to look at info about my great great grandfather who was resident in Toxteth Park Workhouse in 1881- The workhouse became a hospital and although now closed the main hospital in Liverpool had to authorise any searches at local Record Office. It was the Records office who told me I would have to obtain this permission, so I would contact the Records Office for Willesden and ask them first if I were you. Good Luck Simone x |

If she was born in the workhouse but not kept there, there might not be much. Workhouses kept registers of admission/discharge, but all I can find on a2a for Willesden is: Willesden Board of Guardians Catalogue Ref. BG/W Creator(s): Willesden Board of Guardians, 1896-1929 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ORDERS AND LEGAL PAPERS LOCAL GOVERNMENT ORDERS FILE - Order of Local Government Board (58902), known as The Willesden (Workhouse Vaccination) Order, 1912 - remuneration of Public Vaccinator of Workhouse District by a fixed sum - ref. BG/W/127/1 - date: 5 Jul 1912 nell |
