Yes, if it says 15 for age on the 1841 they could be anything between 15 and 19. Kate. |

Except that most people on 1841 census would have been born before birth certs came in on 1 July 1837. So you'd need to check baptism records. nell |

Ages were supposed to be rounded down for adults in 1841, but it didn't always happen. It might be easier to see if you can find the person in 1851 and see what age it has for them on there. Only the birth certificate will give a proper answer. Kath. x |

I know there was a thead on here somewhere before in relation to what census takers did in relation to ages - especially 1841, i.e. ages of adults were rounded up/down to the nearest five and children were inputted correctly. What i need to know is where it is trying to ascertain whether someone was actually 15 in 1841 or indeed between 15-20 Any help much appreciated Regards Sue |
