help to trace dads first wife

need fresh brains mine have gone foggy my dad edward henry scott married glayds surname unknown could have been in the colchester area that was where he was based in the 2nd wwar and then in india on his solders book he has put his birth date as 1/8/1913 but i know he was born on 1/8/1915 he enlisted on 9/1/1935 he was married by then any fresh ideas have searched 1837online starting at dates that they might have married but no joy |

What date did you start your search for the marriage - when he turned 16? If you have searched from then without any luck, could they have married after he enlisted? Did you make a note of all the marriages in the correct name, along with the spouse surname. (so you can check to see the fourname of any vaguely possible marriages). Maybe they married outside the area you imagine? Perhaps he didn't include his middle name when he married, which would make things difficult as that would vastly increase the numbers of entries..... Did he and Gladys have any children? If they did and you know a name, finding the birth cert would give you her maiden name.... What happened to Gladys? Did they divorce, or was he a widower when he remarried? Merry |

Have you searched the years 1931-1935? They could have maried in scotland (gretna!!) |

Was your dad described as a widower or divorced person on his 2nd marriage cert? If divorced, you should be able to find out more - my husband's parents' wedding cert actually names his previous wife. If widowed, you can get Gladys' death cert and see from her age at death when she would have been 16 and start then. nell |
