registration area and timescale 1960's??

And check the bottom of the pages - additions were often squeezed in at the bottom. nell

It was 6 weeks, so could be in the quarter after the baby was born. Check for any 'Male' and 'Female' babies in the index, as some indecisive parents still hadn't chosen a name(although by the 1960s almost all babies were named). Another possibility is that the baby was born in a different district to where the parents lived.

Wandsworth Created 1st July 1837. In Surrey until 1889. Sub-districts : Battersea; Clapham; East Battersea; North West Battersea; Putney; South West Battersea; Southfields; Springfield; Streatham; Wandsworth; West Battersea. GRO volumes : IV (1837-51); 1d (1852-1930). Battersea, Clapham, Putney, **Streatham**, Tooting Graveney, Wandsworth. Registers now divided between Wandsworth and Lambeth districts. As far as I know, it was up to 6 weeks to register.

can anyone help?? im looking for a birth on 1837 (not looking for help with that) in the mid 1960's in the streatham area of london...........how would i find the registration area and how long in those days (and im not even sure about today) did you have to register a birth?? cos ive been looking at the months i thought and am finding nothing so could they have been registered in a different quarter?? thanks kaz
