I have just been on UK BMD site,They have a survey on the HOMEPAGE asking people if they would like to see certificates online in the future. Would be nice if everyone had a look and filled the survey in. Sue

I thought this was a foregone conclusion and that all BMDs older than 100 years are going to be on-line by 2006? Please tell me I'm right! Olde Crone

Not trying to be argumentative here, and I WILL fill in the survey, but the Government's plans to put BMDs on line are not being done for our benefit. It is part of a cost-cutting exercise as the recent interest in Family History has been a big strain on local Register Offices and Southport. It has cost them many millions of £££ in overtime and temporary staff. Many local Register Offices are now refusing to issue certificates for Family History purposes, in anticipation of the new regime. It actually makes economic sense (blimey, that must have happened by accident!) and as most of us do not require certificated copies for Fam Hist purposes, I for one, shall be VERY happy to download a £3. image rather than waiting that dreadful seven days and paying £7. The Register Offices and the GRO will then be left free to concentrate on issuing and copying certs of living people, for Passports etc. Off to fill in the survey. Olde Crone
