Does anyone have any idea where I would find a record of my grand fathers birth. From what I can gather he was born on one of the channel islands, his father was serving in the british army and was stationed there, it was a training camp from what I can gather. I have no idea if his mother was local to the island or moved with her husband. Would families have moved with people serving in the armed forces? Avril |

Hi Avril, 1837online have regimental birth indexes from 1761 on the overseas search so I would say yes the families moved with them from quite early years. You could do a search there. Regards Fiona. |

You don't give a date, but you could also try Genuki's information pages about the Channel Islands. http://user.itl*net/~glen/genukici.html replace * with . I think its most likely he was born in Jersey or Guernsey as the other two would be a bit small for training camps. nell |
