Henry THATCHER, born 1848. On 1861: RG9/714, Folio:82, Page:15. Place of birth reads Bindon, Surrey. Does anyone know where that is?????? All answers that say, ''Right near Croydon'' will be greatfully accepted! Happy Hunting - Merry

hello Christine, Yes, that's the bap I want to pair up with the census entry!! it would be easier if the mother was the same person in both cases, but she is Caroline on the bap and Eliza on the census. I was working on the theory that Caroline had died and been replaced!! There are death and marriage reg's that fit that scenario, but not yet checked out. I was wondering if anyone would say that Bindon was a real place and, if it was nowhere near Croydon or Beddington, then I would have to think again!! So, do you think Bindon should read Beddington???? Merry

Many many moons ago, there was a hamlet called BANDON that was part of Beddington, It has long since been eaten up by Beddington, just shows in a few road names. Bev x

Merry Now, follow these instructions closely: Close your mouth tightly and look down at your feet. Through clenched teeth, hardly opening your mouth, mutter in a mousy sort of voice the word 'Beddington' See? Comes out as Bindon. Problem solved. Olde Crone

Thanks Bev!! That's exactly what I needed to hear! Olde Crone! Will you be practising regional accents etc for your novel, or is everyone going to be upper crust in that?? (No Mellors?) Merry
