I have a brickwall with John Batchelor ,who has been searched for on this tips thread , I have his sons birth cert of sept 1870 & was wondering if I can search by address on that cert, Would seem that john & wife Esther have been mistranscribed & arnt showing them selves to the many helpful searchers on this site(thanks folks who have already looked for him) Can I look by an address? Not in any straightforward way!! Can you please post the couples details (from another census?) and the son's name and place of birth along with the address. A lot depends on where they lived as to how easy/difficult it would be to find the address. Merry

His name was John Batchelor & wife Esther (nee Emons) The only sighting of them is 1881 census, when they are living in 1 Bohn Street Mile End Old Town with children John George b 1870, dau Esther b.c1872,Agnes b. c 1875, Arthur b 1877 (my grandad!!) & James b.c.1879. Esher (wife) was born Bethnal Green 1852 John senior born Holloway (although no birth cert found ,or parish record) 1847 Children all down as born Stepney. John & Esther married Mar 1870 in the parish church of Old Jude Bethnal Green. Their fisrtborn John George was born 19th Sept 1870 (dont count!!!!)_ at 137 Belgrave Street Ratcliffe reg district Stepney Middlesex. As I cant find them on 1871 & John died 1884 aged 37 & his birth doesnt semm to have been reg,(have searched the records at London Records . am at a loss going back on his line. Was hoping he might be near his parents address on 1871 too. Have Esther on 1861 BUT John is proving difficult to find other than 1881 & have his marriage & death cert Shirley

Got all excited about John and Esther Backler in Stepney, aged 24 and 20 respectively, but their ''unnamed child'' is only one month, so that's no good. Fed up now...... Merry

Hi Merry Yes we have investigated that one too, got John George birth cert to see if tied up but he was six months old at census. I think some rellies just dont want to be found. Shirley

They're not in Belgrave Street in 1871. A Thomas and Eliza Life live there. Crista

I thought the address Belgrave Street, Ratcliff, rang a bell with me and sure enough I have just dug out my great grandad Charles Edward Ling's birth certificate and he was born at 47 Belgrave Street on 19 January 1869 so it appears that our ancestors were neighbours (almost) for a short time although my family had moved (to Lambeth) by 1871. Sorry this doesn't help you trace your family, it looks as if their names have been mistranscribed. By the way I visited Belgrave Street about 20 years ago and took a few photos although the area was being developed quite heavily and not many of the old houses remained.
