Ladies The address is: http://www.familyhistoryonline*net/ replace the * with . If you click on the tab top left marked 'Databases' you can check county by county what resources are held - you can then get further info about coverage of parishes/dates etc. Check this BEFORE you pay. I've found a lot of baptisms for Lewes, Sussex, and it has transcriptions of 1841/51 Cambridge census and Bucks census 1851, but not much for Norfolk or Gloucestershire. It has National Burial Index for some places, and it also has the 1881 census, which is good if you can't access familysearch site. nell |

Lancashire coverage isn't so great: Liverpool 1851 Census index Liverpool Baptisms 1 place (1773-1876) Liverpool Marriages 2 places (1773-1837) Prestwich St Mary Marriages (1754-1800) Liverpool Burials 1 place (1773-1858) Manchester Burials 12 places (1665-1992) |

If you want to know about coverage, just look on the site. You don't have to join to check out what they have. nell |

Coverage depends on what the individual societies are prepared to put on. Original indexes were often not produced with any idea that they might be converted into a computerised format. The conversion process can take a long time and some societies are more clued up (or have more volunteers) than others. Hence the coverage is extremely variable. I find the search engine really useful for 1881 (which is free) because it shows occupation before you drill down to household, which can save time in recognising the right individual. There are some wonderful indexes for Wiltshire - especially for my ill or wicked ancestors. It is a lucky dip, but is continually being updated, so it is always worth revisiting. |

When Family History on Line started a few years back, I though it was going to be good, I haven't used it for about 12 months and now that I have again, I dont feel there has been much progress, not in the Nottinghamshire area anyway. June xx |
