Somewhere along the line my family is supposed to be connected to the Taylors of chipchase castle in Wark. My GG Grandfather appears to be from a large fmily of siblings. one thomas, isabella, mary jane, john(myGG Grandfather) George Edward, William and Alice. Their parents seem to be Thomas Taylor and Alice Sanderson. The father of Thomas is also Thomas. one of this motely crew is supposed to be the relation. My mother now seems to think there was a 2nd wife, and there fore more children or a child, and it is through the 2nd wife that the relationship occurs. But who could have had the 2nd wife., as on the 1881 census all the children listed belong to both thomas and alice. |

Why can't Alice be the second wife? You need to get their marriage cert to tell you if she is wife one or two - or even three! Alternatively, BCs of first and last child to see if they have the same mother. We were supposed to be related to the de Traffords, who owned Trafford Park. So far, all I've found is a rellie who worked for them as a gardener! Olde Crone |

When you say all the children listed on the 1881 census are the children of Thomas and Alice, do you mean you have their birth certs that state they are the children of Thomas and Alice or are you basing this on them being listed as a family? The children's relationship will be to the Head of the House and therefore they could all be Thomas's but not necessarily all Alice's Lou |

The 1881 census said: Thomas Taylor head37 Newcastle upon tyne cartman alice taylor wife 35 Newcastle Thomas son 16 Newcastle cartman isabella daughter 15 newcastle gen serv mary jane daugter 13 Newcastle scholar john son 12 Newcastle scholar George Edward son 9 Newcastle scholar william son male 5 newcastle scholar alice daughter 4 Newcastle scholar address: 29 Gallowgate Newcastle, St Andrew, Northumberland. Have sent for certs of isabellas marriage as I thought and got the wrong one. sent for birth of william and got a wrong father. John is my link to this lot and was born 21/7/1869 and married Annie Hara on 10/11/1897. I know William had a son called Tom and was in the Cameronians but cannot find anything re birth of him either. Taylor is dead common. Alice married someone with the surname Bell. I have a lovely old photo of john My GG Grandfather and Alice his sister. |
