Does anyone know where to view Parish records? Im in Coventry but can travel. Are there any rules & regulations regarding the records or anything I should know about? Thanks.

Orginal parish records, transcripts etc are usually with the county records office. Mostly they are available on microfilm/fiche and there are often indexes too. I think you can look at the originals if you can't get the info elsewhere. Some entries have been put on the IGI (google Hugh Wallis batch numbers to find out which/when). There are also some on family history online, but this is a pay-per-view site, so check county coverage before you buy any credits. County records offices vary enormously in size and everything else. Most of them have their own websites so check for opening times (Bedford is shut on Saturday, for example). nell

The LDS have many parish registers on microfilm, which you can order for viewing for a fairly nominal sum at one of their Family History Centres. There is one in Coventry - see http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp You can check whether they have the parish register in which you are intererested by searching on http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=localitysearch&columns=*,0,0 Good hunting David

Hi, I live just outside Coventry and have family from Nottinghamshire. Only took about an hour to get to the archives in Nottinghamshire and they have loads of records. Me and sister and my eldest spent ages going through things. As long as you go with an idea of what you want to find it would be worth a trip. Can't help with other areas though.
