Cant find JOHN MCGLEAD 1867

Heres one for you. Trying to find JOHN MCGLEADs birth or appearance on census. Have him on 1901 born in Sheffield,age 34 married to ROSE and their children in Alverstoke. They married Nov 1 1890 at Alverstoke he was 23 and a Corporal in the Yorks Light Infantry. His fathers name is James Mcglead and on Johns marriage cert down as a soldier. I cant find Johns birth, checked 1837, FreeBMD and Ancestry only a John Mcglead born 1864 Stockton. He isnt as far as I can see on any other census and neither is his Dad so cant check incase this may be the same person.

This really is a difficult one. Can't find John anywhere except 1901. I found Rose's family in 1881 census, and then looked for then in 1891, thinking Rose maybe stayed with them if John was away...and several children born there...but no luck. Hope someone can help Joan

McGlead sounds v unusual to me - is it possible he is mistranscribed elsewhere? nell

Hi Have you searched the overseas births ? Son John P McGlead reg 1890 Southampton Regiment 105th Volume 853 Page 96 This record is free to view on 1837online Regards Helen K

Hi There's also a possibility for another son of John and Rose in the Overseas births. McGlead William A Colaba 1892 Regiment 105th Volume 853 Page 97 Regards Helen K

I think it is McGlead as I found a marriage to Rose McGoff in 1890, Alverstoke. Cant see him on any other census yet.

Should of added knew the Mcgleads were in India 1891 census as one of their sons was born there and I have his birth cert. Cheers for looking.
