Census where taken every 5 years instead of 10? I recieved a death certificate of whom I believe my ggg grandfather David Noble. He died 15.04.1870 in 21 Dixon Street, Salford, the informant of his death is James Fazackerley, his address is 5 Sanford Street, Salford. I have David living in shifnal Shropshire in 1861 with his trade as a brewer, his son Thomas is living in Dawley, Shropshire with his wife and kids. By 1871, Thomas has moved to Salford, Lancashire and as i couldn't find David in 1871 in either Shropshire or Salford or anywhere else for that matter I pressumed he must have died. I found a death and send for certificate, the certificate age is about right, it also says he was a brewer. The person who registered his death has only left his mark, meaning he was illiterate, with this I presume he is either a friend or relative. I can't find James Fazackerley anywhere in 1871 or 1861. I was hopingthe certificate was going to have his wife's name was :( as I can't find a marrige for him, he probably married before 1837 so there won't be one. Thomas was born in Bramham, West yorks. Looks like I'm going to have to revert to Parish records, it's going to be ages before I can organise that. wahhhhhhhhhhhh lol Ria :)

Ria GR always scrambles the first post in a new thread, so I've taken the liberty of rearranging your query in the hope that someone can help. You have a death certificate you think is your ggg grandfather Name David Noble. date of death 15.04.1870 place of death 21 Dixon Street, Salford informant James Fazackerley informant's address is 5 Sanford Street, Salford. 1861 census David is in shifnal Shropshire as a brewer his son Thomas is living in Dawley, Shropshire with his wife and kids. By 1871, Thomas has moved to Salford, Lancashire As you couldn't find David in 1871 in either Shropshire or Salford or anywhere else you assumed he must have died. The death cert you mention above is correct regarding his age and occupation, but you don't know who the informant is - you presume he is either a friend or relative. You can't find James Fazackerley anywhere in 1871 or 1861. You haven't been able to find a marriage for David, probably hemarried before 1837 so there won't be one. Thomas was born in Bramham, West yorks. *************************************************** James Fazackerley was illiterate and therefore his name may have been misrecorded by the registrar on the death cert, it may have been written differently on the census, which is why you haven't found him. He may also not have been a close connection of David's, but a neighbour or just someone who was around when David died. This might mean that David's wife had already died (although I do have two men in my family tree whose deaths were registered by strangers when their wives were alive). You don't say when Thomas was born, so you might be able to get his birth cert if it was after 1837. This would have David's wife's maiden name on it. Otherwise you will have to find Thomas' baptism record - it might be on www.familysearch.org - but it would probably only have his mother's first name. nell

Hi Nell, thanks for unscrambling it all for me lol, I'm dyslexic so stuff i write might make sense to me but not everyone else :) Anyway, Thomas was born in 1836, I haven't been able to find a baptism date for him, I do have his Marriage certificate though so thats where I've got his birth date from. When David was in Shifnal, his address was given as The George Inn, this is where he worked as brewer, he may also have lived there as well, don't know. I haven't been able to find David in 1851 or 41. Don't you just love a challenge! lol. I'm starting a new job in a new town on Monday, both my kids are leaving home at the same time and I'm having to leave my hubby behind for 5 weeks as he has to give 2 months notice on his job before he can join me. It's going to be quite some time before i get the chance to go to York to do research boohoo. I was meant to go the lweek before last as i had booked the week off for holidays, but this job came up out of the blue and so i had to go into panic stations mode for work and somewhere to live instead of my holiday plans :s. All in a good cause though. Just wish i could find more info on my ggg grandfather :)
