One of my lines are DUNK's from Kent. For many years i was researching and couldnt get any further back than 1819. One day looking about on websites (as you do) i found someone with some of the same names and details. I contacted them and it turned out we were related and this then took me back to the mid 1700's.......As this gave me some new names and places to work with i continued to find more new relatives . I found other people that could be conected to my line and they had took their trees back another couple of hundred years...... Most of these people were related to Sir Thomas DUNK , his daughter/ Niece married George MONTAGUE who was the 2nd Earl of Halifax. The areas of interest covered Rolvenden, Hawkhurst and other places in Kent/Sussex......... While looking into this one day i can across a website that had a Dunk book included all family history on the DUNKs with areas, places, dates, names and buriels. While looking at this website the area had a power cut and my pc cut out and i did not get chance to save the page or take note what the book was called. For the last 3 weeks ive been trying every day to try and find it. Ive tried everything GOOGLE ,ask geeves etc........ I know there are at least 3 books on the DUNKs ... 1 DUNKs 1866-1963... 2 DUNK 1816- 1961... 3 THe DUNK family dwellers of the Weald by w.J.Harold DUNK....... Ive also tried looking for these books and ive been unable to find anything. Ive been informed you can no longer buy these books . So ive tried many of the old book websites and that sort of thing and nothing...... Please could someone help me find what i am looking for or maybe know what iam talking about and point me in the right direction. Many thanks for your time Sarah

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia George Montague-Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax (6 October 1716 - 8 June 1771) was a British statesman of the Georgian era. The son of Charles Montague, 1st Earl of Halifax (of the second creation), he became Earl of Halifax on his father's death in 1739. Educated at Eton College and at Trinity College, Cambridge, he was married in 1741 to Anne Richards (died 1753), who had inherited a great fortune from Sir Thomas Dunk, whose name Halifax took. After having been an official in the household of Frederick, Prince of Wales, the earl was made Master of the Buckhounds, and in 1748 he became President of the Board of Trade. While filling this position he helped to found Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, which was named after him, and he helped foster trade, especially with North America. About this time he attempted, unsuccessfully, to became a secretary of state, but was only allowed to enter the cabinet in 1757. In March 1761 Halifax was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and during part of the time which he held this office he was also First Lord of the Admiralty. He became Secretary of State for the Northern Department under the Earl of Bute in October 1762, switching to the Southern Department in 1763 and was one of the three ministers to whom George III entrusted the direction of affairs during the premiership of George Grenville. In 1762, in search of evidence of sedition, he authorised a raid on the home of John Entick, declared unlawful in the case of Entick v. Carrington. He signed the general warrant under which John Wilkes was arrested in 1763, for which action he was made to pay damages by the courts of law in 1769, and he was mainly responsible for the exclusion of the name of the king's mother, Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, from the Regency Bill of 1765. Together with his colleagues, the Earl left office in July 1765, returning to the cabinet as Lord Privy Seal under his nephew, Lord North, in January 1770. He had just been restored to his former position of secretary of state when he died. Halifax, who was lord-lieutenant of Northamptonshire and a lieutenant-general in the army, was very extravagant. He left no children, and his titles became extinct on his death. Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford speaks slightingly of the earl, and says he and his mistress, Mary Anne Faulkner, had sold every employment in his gift.

I would suggest you contact the Soc of Genealogists' Library or the relevant Kentish archives to see if they know of/have copies of these books. nell

You could also try the County Reference Library - they may have an on-line catalogue. I found an unpublished manuscript for my family in a small town library. Good luck Olde Crone

Hi Thank you eveyone for all your help. Ive tried every book website that ive come across . They have come up with a few called the weald of Kent, Sussex etc. However no DUNKs listed. I really must find this website, someone had transcibed the book to the website and it had quite a few pages of the stuff. It was a very interesting read and just a dream to find something on one of my lines. I also think it mentioned other families but was mainly based on the Dunks. If i can remember correctly it had parish records going back to about the 1500's. I will try again and keep searching on Google etc , because thats how i came across it . I am not sure if the site was English or not. It just seems a shame that there no longer available to buy in the shops. When i first started looking for the Dunk's a few people emailed me to say that they had a copy of some of the books and they would send me a photo copy but ive not heard from any of them. I do wish to be pain and keep emailing them and asking them. Thank you all Sarah
