I have been waiting in great anticipation for my grandmother's birth cert., to find the name of her mother. Hoping it would be something interesting and different! ( In my research I have found all common names so it has been quite a long haul.) My grandmother was an Edwards who married a Thompson and I wanted to go further back into the Edwards connection. The cert. arrived today: Her mother's MAIDEN name was THOMPSON!! Another Thompson group to look for (or were they distantly related??). This could be frustrating. Haven't been able to find Mary Anne Thompson marrying Walter Edwards on any of my searches so far. But I know they both lived to have 11children. Any hints on how to search for this marriage? Thanks. Margaret. |

Hello I searched the LDS site under marriages for both names, and then Ancestry. I went through many Mary Anne's from all the areas in London that could have been where they were (I find the names change because of the close proximity of all the areas) Stepney, Shoreditch, Mile End Old Town, Hoxton, Hackney, Bethnal Green. I think they must have married around 1874 because their oldest child was born in 1875 and they didn't seem to leave out many years without a baby (LOL). Thanks for your reply. Margaret. |

Hi Suzanne ooooh! How naughty! They had 3 children by then!!!! Seems to be them though. Thanks so much for your help. I guess I must start being a bit more unconventional in looking, I was giving it a couple of years in and around 1874 because there were so many people of the same name and I was trying to cut a few of them out. Obviously didn't work. Thanks again. Regards Margaret. |

It could be worse, she could have been a Smith! |

Margaret - are you sure that Mary Anne was the mother of the first three children, or could Walter have had another wife before her who died? Kate. |

Hi Kate That is definitely a possibility, I didn't think of that. My grandmother was one of the later born children and I didn't even think that the earlier ones could have had another mum. I really need to get more creative! Thanks for the hint, I will follow up on that. (Perhaps they weren't as naughty as I thought! LOL. ) Rgds. Margaret. |

Nell, that is true! At one stage I thought I had a Jones but it was a non match in the end. I will keep plugging along with all these Thompsons. Rgds Margaret |

Hi Lib It makes you wonder if they were marrying remote (hopefully) cousins! But perhaps they were just another family with the same name after all, it does make it a bit of a challenge to isolate them doesn't it? I am going to send for the mother's birth cert and see if I can find out more that way. Rgds Margaret |
