Hi need some advice regarding a birth cert, if a person applied for his own birth cert only knowing his mothers maiden name and was refused as he was adopted is there any other way of this person getting his certificate. Regards COL

how would they know you were adopted? or am I missing something here ?? if you apply for your birth cert I dont see any reason providing you know the relevant info like dates and volumne and page number that you wouldnt get it.

Hi Valerie this person was refused as he did not provide enough information he only knows his mothers maiden name which was the same as his own surname on the cert, he was adopted not long after she registered his birth. I dont know how they know but they told him to contact social services. Colette xxx

Precisely,I could order it myself,if i knew her name, and his birthdate..........it would show in the sheets as an ammended entry ,and would stand out. he doesnt have to speak to anybody about it

they dont necessarily change the cert, they sometimes change the code numbers at the end,and sometimes refer to another period if the child is reregistered. Mail direct with details of mothers name and time of his birth and his name, and i'll have a look for you on 1837,to see what it says

Regulations vary from decade to decade. I traced a mother for someone who was registered in one name at birth, was adopted, and he was given a different name with his new family. His birth record under his original name had alterations to the code number, probably the resultof being refiled. That was in the 60's.
