I am looking for JOSEPH STEVENS in 1891 census. He was born C1838 in Wendover Bucks and in 1881 was butler to Lord George Lyttleton in Lower Grosvenor St London. He is not with his wife and children as I have them separately. I have tried a soundex and a couple of variations such as Stephens with no luck. I am sure he is there as he re-appears in 1901 living in Ilford with his daughter and son in law. I think my eyes (and brain) are tired. Any help or hints appreciated. TIA Claire xx |

Yes, on ancestry! I searched five years each way of 1838 and Ste* as the surname and Bucks as the county, but no Wendover. It is spelled correctly on the census page, but not the index! MMM |

Ahhh I think I have just realised why I can't find him. I know his birth date for a fact to be 1838 and I was only searching 2 years either side of that. Thanks again. I knew a freash pair of eyes would do the trick.:o) Claire xx |
