I have a relative - Jessie Harrold, Lady Lane, Elgin, who was put in jail for concealing from the Poor Registrar that she had already received a settlement from Dallas Parish! Her being in jail classed her children as being abandoned. What I would like to find out is, if there is any way of getting access to prison records? Any tips on how to go about this? Any help would be very gratefully received!!!

Have you tried the local Record office? sometimes prison records are deposited with them. there are some prison records online, from census etc. try googling the name of the prison you never know Bev

Prison records, including prison registers which have prisoners' details, are generally in the county records office. nell

Thanks. My first port of call had been my family history department at the local library but the guy there didn't know where the prison records were. I'll now try the registrar office.
