Hi Caroline India apparently has no birth or marriage certificates according to the following website. It does suggest however to look in the church records. Here is the link for the page: http://users.rootsweb\9.\0com/~indwgw/ Remove () Hope it helps. Vikki xx |

Some of my husband's ancestors were born in India in 1800's. I have found christenings for some of them on IGI -presume you could then order film as you can for parish records. Also some info re records on the British Library website - oriental collections. (No online searches but gives you info re the kind of records they hold) www(.)bl(.)uk/collections/oriental office. Also found some details re marriages on Bengal marriage index - transcribed records but a pointer if ancestors married in Bengal. They are quite a nusiance aren't they. Whole families of hubby's relations for three generations over there, putting in the odd appearance in old age on an English census with all children & themselves born in India! |
