When a woman marries for the second time, is the GRO record in her maiden name or previous married name? Lynne |

Thanks for your replies. She was with her first husband in 1881 and her second husband in 1891. I have looked for a death for her first husband but cannot find one so don't know whether or not she was widowed. Lynne |

My ggrandmother used her maiden name on her marriage tp ggrandad in 1893. She was previously married in 1874. Still checking to find out whether the second marriage was bigamous, though! Lol. |

Thanks Brian I actually haven't yet found the second marriage, just the 1891 census which shows them as married with her four children. Then in 1901 they have three more children. Lynne |

I've found them marrying in maiden names and previous married names. I guess it depends on if they had anything to hide. |

So far in my searches all second marriages the woman has used her married name and then when the cert comes through it will say, for example Elizabeth Steward formerly Dicks (Steward being her married name and Dicks being her maiden name). Regards Sue |
