I don't know about anyone else - but I now religiously keep my photo albums with names, dates etc. I have just completed transferring photos from my parents and grandparents albums (that were damaged) into a new album and at the front I have inserted a family tree from me showing back to my gg grandparents with dates etc. The paragraph below I have inserted at the bottom of the page (which fits inside the front cover) and wondered if anyone could think of anything that needs adding to it or that I have missed. I just felt that by putting something like this at the bottom it might make someone from a younger generation think 'I am inserting this front sheet in the hope that at some point in a future generation someone will feel the need to trace their roots - and having found this book in some dusty attic, will be intrigued enough to want to find out about these people as I did – but please don’t leave it too long. Make use of the living relatives you have and gather as much information as you can before they are no longer with you. I wish I had - the stories about them as a children and young people ‘fill out’ the characters far more than the dusty ‘facts and figures’ available in records offices. I hope that along with this album you have also found the family history files that go with the names above – if you have I hope you have a mind inquisitive enough to finish the story that I started. Good luck – God speed' I would welcome anyones comments Regards Trudy |

One of my grandaughters will be 18 later this month. I have filled an album for her with photographs from her birth until her 18th. I have put her family tree in the album to. Looking forward to seeing what she thinks of it all on her birthday. Regards Irene |

You could add a little bit about yourself. Not just dates, but a discription of yourself (hair colour, height etc.), some of your likes and dislikes, your important memories, just to add a bit of flesh to the bones for whoever takes up your challenge to carry on the family tree. Kath. x |

Hi Kathleen What I've also done with this particular album is to split it into people/couples and I have attached a plastic wallet to the first page things like newspaper cuttings I have about them and things like christening certificates and other snippets that wouldn't normally be in a 'family history' file - I have my brothers first pair of 'bootees' and some pressed flowers from my sisters wedding boquet, my dad's referee whistle (he was a football referee for almost 45 years!!) - things like that - just to try and make it a bit personal and hopefully to 'intrigue' whoever eventually finds it!!! Regards Trudy |

Trudy, It soulds lovely. I just wish I could get myself so organised. I spend too much time on these message boards and not enough doing the important things. Kath. x |

Hi Kathleen You're not the only one - I got 'inspired' about four months ago when I discovered my grandmothers photograph album that I didn't even know I had - containing pictures of my g grandparents that I didn't know existed!!! Trudy |
