Does anyone know how you go about getting certs from information you get on the familysearch.org site please. It gives you the source information but I dont know where to send for the certs as the information given isn't like on FreeBMD with Vol no. and Page etc. so do I have to send off to the individual registry offices where they were born or died etc. I know I can get them from the london registry place but they are more expensive that way. Most of the IGI data is from parish records, and is mainly pre-1837. There was no civil registration before that date, therefore you won't be able to get certificates if you are after these early dates. Your best bet is to get a copy of the relevant parish register entry. You can order the film from the LDS (the film number is shown with the search results) and view it at your local LDS family history library. Another option is to contact the records office (not register office) for that area. They would have their local parish records, and often will send copies of individual entries for a small fee. I usually get them from the local Records office....find the address by google, it's usually the county town, then sometimes a phone call to check it is the right one,......cost....often not much more than the cost of the photocopy. But there may not be much info on it....depends on the parish and date...the further back the less there is . Good luck. Joan |
