Street directories will list householder. Electoral roll will list all adults eligible to vote (so only women over 30 or married women after 1918 and no women before that date). Street directories and electoral rolls are usually at county records offices/major libraries in the area/local history centres. nell |

Oh and you can search the 1901 census by address, so that's one year sorted! Electoral rolls/street directories will just give the name, there won't be any other details. nell |

The following censuses can be searched by address: 1861: www.1837online.com (pay per view) 1881: www.ancestry(.)co.uk (free to search the 1881, even for non-subscribers) 1901: www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk (pay per view) For the intervening censuses, the best best is to find someone on one of the above who was still in the street on the year in question. Doesn't have to be the name that you're looking for - if you've found the street on say the 1881, then have a look at the neighbours and search for them on Ancestry on the year you want. Nine times out of ten you'll hit on someone who was still there a decade earlier or later. Failing that, you don't have much choice but to look through the images for an entire district until you find it. I believe that some CD sets have a street index though. Richard |
