in an 1881 census return, i have found 4 NKs but ages included, why would they not know who they were? |

Lots of circumstances: Householder filled in the form - left things out - or handwriting tricky so enumerator left things out. Lodgers in household - landlord forgets names and guesses ages. Enumerator drops forms in wet puddle - ink runs across names. Some people didn't agree with the state asking questions so might deliberately falsify or omit details. Data given by neighbour, ''Well there is a man and his wife aged about 25 and two children, 3 and 1, but I don't know their names...'' etc Sarah |
