I probably would never have given it a second thought. My Building Society has gone 'digital' or something similar - anyway they've sent me all the 'papers' concerning my house. Amongst these papers are a Death Certificate and a few other bits of 'personal' information of a previous owner. Without being unkind, they are of no use to me but having spent some years trying to get any scrap of info., on my relatives, I wonder if there is someone out there who would love to have these documents. What to do? Has anyone else had this happen? M. Steer |

Hi Margaret, is there a local history society in your area. Some one called on us last summer, which is an ordinary house in an ordinary st. . We showed him the deeds etc of our house. They might be grateful for what you have. |

Yes I got a huge envelope including all the details of my house being built, various death and marriage certificates etc when I moved my mortgage provider. Its stuck in a drawer, because I didn't know what to do with it all. JJ |

I got all that with our last (Victorian) house. When we sold it I passed them all on to our buyers, who realised that it was the house's 'family tree' and were very excited. I had always intended to do an illustration of it, frame it and hang it in the hall but I never got round to it. Too much renovation was needed! You could always offer the cert on a swaps site but I would create the house's own file to preserve its identity too. I found it hugely satisfying! There is an address search on 1901 that you can use to pad it out. And yes, when I get a minute I do watch 'House Detectives' on television! Regards Abigail |
