Is it possible to download the actual scanned 1881 Census images at the FamilySearch website? If so, how?

No, it isn't. But if you find your family and get the reference number - RG and folio, page etc and put a nice notice on the REcords office board, someone with a sub to Ancestry might be able to send you the image. nell

1881 is free on family search, but you only have access to the transcribed pages, NOT the original images. nell

Jim I just tried Ancestry 1881 and when I clicked on the icon for the image it took me to a page to subscribe. So it looks like you can search but not view the image for free. Pity, I could have done with seeing the particular image. Lynne
