If you live in London then the SoG is apparently the place to go for family research, including Parish Registers (on film/fiche), instead of going to a County Records Office. The LDS centres across the country also have many records, including the Irish BMD index. However, I want to know if SoG or LDS have BMD indexes / Parish Registers for Channel Islands, or Parish Registers / Censuses (which ones?) for Ireland?

they've both got complete catalogues online: http://www.sog.org.uk/prc/index.html http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp The LDS catalogue is for Salt Lake City, but presumably anything that's on film can be ordered at a branch

Bear in mind that the LDS centre may be easier to get to, as they are all over the country, and that unless you are a member you have to pay to use the SoG - although it is a veritable goldmine of resources. nell
