If a person is born illegitimate, unless it states that she will be using her father's name, she would normally be registered under her mother's surname. Do you have any idea about which surname she used? What is on her marriage cert? If she used her father's surname, I'd record that, but I would make a note that she was illegitimate somewhere. At least you have a father's name - my gt grandmother was illegitimate, but I am so grateful that her wedding cert on the father's column said illegitimate daughter of Susanna Barnes' which gave me a parent at least. It didn't say Susanna was dead though, which is another story. My gt grandmother was proud of her surname and chose it as a middle name for one of her sons. nell |
