Staffordshire 1841 to 1871 look up Is there any one out there with access to Staffordshire information between 1841 and 1871. The family I am interested in is called Wilks. In the 1881 Census they are listed as living at Station Road, Cannock, Staffordshire. The family consisted of Richard Wilks, head c1837 born Wales. Louisa Wilks, wife c1841 born Bloxwich, Staffordshire. Sarah Bevins, Stepdaughter c1866 born Bloxwich (In 1891 census listed as Sarah A Vivian). Omiah Wilks, daughter c1875 born Bloxwich. James Wilks, son c1875 born Bloxwich. Thomas Wilks, son c1877 born Bloxwich. Richard Wilks, son c1880 born Hednesford, It would be great to find out if Richard Wilks family originally from Wales were around the Staffordshire area in earlier census. Also I do not know if Louisa maiden name was Bevins and she had Sarah out of wedlock or if she was married pre her marriage to Richard Wilks. But any new information would be gratefully received. Thanking you in advance for any help you might be able to offer, Kind regards, Christopher |

I've taken the liberty of reparagraphing your query - GR always crunches the first in a new thread. 1881 Census Station Road, Cannock, Staffordshire. Richard Wilks, head c1837 born Wales. Louisa Wilks, wife c1841 born Bloxwich, Staffordshire. Sarah Bevins, Stepdaughter c1866 born Bloxwich (In 1891 census listed as Sarah A Vivian). Omiah Wilks, daughter c1875 born Bloxwich. James Wilks, son c1875 born Bloxwich. Thomas Wilks, son c1877 born Bloxwich. Richard Wilks, son c1880 born Hednesford, You want to know: 1. if Richard Wilks family originally from Wales were around the Staffordshire area in earlier census. 2. if Louisa's maiden name was Bevins and she had Sarah out of wedlock or if she was married pre her marriage to Richard Wilks. Can't help with census lookup, but I'll see what I can do re 1 & 2. nell |

Christopher I've had no luck so far :-( Are you sure the family was Wilks? I've found this birth Wilkes, Richard Hammond S 1879 December Births Cannock Staffordshire vol 6b Page: 456 Cannock registration district includes Hednesford. There are also several James and Thomas WilkEs births which would fit with your dates/birthplaces on ancestry civil reg. Omiah - can you confirm this name? I can't find a marriage for the parents or a birth for Sarah Bevins on ancestry or LDS. nell |

Nell I thought Omiah sounded unlikely - but it really does look like that on the image! If you Google it, it does come up, but mainly as a surname. Christine |

this record gives the right srt of names & ages (seeing the flexibility of ages between 1881/1891) - if you don't mind the surname not being right! Source information: RG10/2958 Registration district: Walsall Sub-registration district: Bloxwich ED, institution, or vessel: 7 Folio: 57 Page: 16 Household schedule number: 99 GSU Number: 836426 Charlotte Wilson abt 1795 Brownhill, Staffordshire, England Head Henery Wilson abt 1826 Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England Son John Wilson abt 1838 Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England Son Louisa Wilson abt 1842 Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England Daughter [possibly 'in-law'? - but not on image, though she is 'Mar' - except both sons are 'Unm'] Sarah Wilson abt 1859 Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England Daughter [surely NOT of the 'head'!] |

the 1871 pair in 1861 (in transcription, they've all been called 'Sen', because their surnames are given as Do = ditto, but the 'Sen' in the Head's row looks like 'Senr = Senior', so I've changed them all to WILSON): Source information: RG9/2012 Registration district: Walsall Sub-registration district: Bloxwich ED, institution, or vessel: 8 Folio: 85 Page: 32 Household schedule number: 162 GSU Number: 542902 W Wilson Senr abt 1791 Burley Dam, Cheshire, England Head Charlotte Wilson abt 1795 Brownhills, Staffordshire, England Wife Henry Wilson abt 1825 Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England Son John Wilson abt 1837 Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England Son Louisa Wilson abt 1840 Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England Daughter [UnM] Sarah Ann Wilson abt 1860 Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England Granddaughter |
