Are there any good parish records websites?

Now that I have a little one I can't spend hours scanning microfiche/film in the library and as a result do my research, where possible, online. I make good use of Ancestry but obviously that's mainly census returns and BMD, are there other good sites which cover parish records? I'm mainly interested in Lancashire records. Thanks! Sharon

You could try familyhistoryonline.org. You buy results for a very small fee. Unfortunately not all records are on it yet. Alternatively try looking at the Family history society for the area you are researching. They sometimes have parish records for sale as fiche or CDs. Anne

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/ There don't seem to be any specific transciption sites listed, but it does tell you where which parish registers are kept, by whom and gives the contact details.

Sharon, When you search the marriages on Lancashire BMD it provides the name of the church or registry office aswell as the names and year etc. You can then contact the registry office and apply for the marriage certificate. Some Local History/Archive Offices will do photo-copies of church marriage registers if you can provide them with names, church and year etc. They usually charge between 50p and one pound per copy for this service. This can save time as you can order over the phone or by post. Website address: www(.)lancashirebmd(.)org(.)uk Remove brackets.

Google 'Hugh Wallis batch numbers' and choose Lancashire. Then you can check the parish(es) you want and it will show you what is available. You can then do a direct search through the registers. BUT you would need to use your findings as a guide and check the originals when you can. nell

Hi Sharon, Try the online parish clerk for Lancashire, some of the parish's have been transcribed, I was looking at Atherton and found quite a lot, the marriage details has Fathers name and I think witnesses. Maggie
