Many thanks to anyone who can shed some light on a christian name on the 1871 census. This is on RG10/4643 Folio 27 Page 15 Schedule 81. The surname is Gillispie and the girl in question is entered between Lavinia and Sampson. Ancestry have it transcribed as Omcaser, although on the original image the first letter looks like an 'E', compared with the Emma three lines above. All suggestions welcome! Gordon

Gordon I would say that her christian name is supposed to read Amelia, looks like the enumerator was not sure how to spell it, Image looks like Emealer to me! Name: GILLISPIE, Amelia Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1860 District: Barnsley County: West Riding of Yorkshire Volume: 9c Page: 106 Lib

Thanks everyone, the 1881 looks to have solved the problem. I'll take it that it should be Amelia. Gordon

Has anyone submitted a correction note? It looks as if it needs to be entered under both 'mistranscription' and 'original error' (or whatever they call that particular problem). Christine
