WHAT NAME?

I have been searching for the SALTER clan, and have some certs(copies) with this name on. I haven't been able to go any further back with them until today. using name varients(never thought i needed to) i have found the whole family under the name SAULTER, which one should i treat as true? i would apprieciate any advice MOE!

Moe, Both are probably true. Just a matter of phonetics. I have noticed while doing my own research that some of my family names have some spelling differences. I have records and certs for one family branch with 3 spellings: Hazlehurst, Haslehurst and Heslehurst. Rose

I've a friend whose maiden name is Sault and she was often misrecorded as Salt. Nell

Helen, i know the further back i go the more obscure the spellings, by 1841 census i will proberbly looking at SALT myself, Good job the mark X wasn't a name or we would all be related, MOEx
