Can anyone help? I am looking for an address for 'The Spitafields Great Synagogue' in the District of Whitechapel in the County of London (that is the heading given on the marriage certificate of 1918). Thanks. Margaret |

This sort of info can always be tracked down by doing a google search (for reference). It looks like the Synagogue is Brick Lane, Tower Hamlets. If you enter a google search you can bring up all the info including the officials. |

It could be the Great Synagogue, which is the only one called Great and not given any specific geographical title. This was in Dukes Place, Whitechapel and was destroyed in WW2 bombing. You can find details by googling. It was an Ashkenazim synagogue and close by is the synagogue in Bevis Marks which was the Sephardim synagogue. You can see where it was geographically by searching for Dukes Place on www streetmap uk co. nell |
