1837 deciphering an image - HELP!!!

Can anyone read the district for John Merrett (births Dec 1840)? There are two on there but I can't read the district of the first one, it looks like Dewjes to me!! Thanks in anticipation, Sarah (betting its the wrong one anyway!) |

I think it says Devizes. Yes, just checked with GEMUKI list of reg districts, and its VIII all right Devizes Created 1st July 1837. Sub-districts : Bishop's Cannings; Bromham; Devizes; Lavington. GRO volumes : VIII (1837-51); 5a (1852-1930). All Cannings, Allington, Alton Barnes, Beechingstone, Bishops Cannings, Bromham, Cheverell Magna, Cheverell Parva, Chirlton, Chittloe, Devizes, Easterton, Edlestoke, Etchillhampton, Fullaway, Marden, Market Lavington, Marston, Patney, Potterne, Poulshot, Roundway, Rowde, Stanton St. Bernard, Stert, Urchfont, West Lavington, Worton. Registers now in Devizes & Marlborough district. Devizes is in Wiltshire if your geog isn't too hot. Nell |
