how to find a birth possibly not registered

hi, how do i find a birth that i cant find on Ancestry and is possibly not on 1837? I have got the info from 1837, but it doesnt appear to match the area. |

If it's not on Ancestry, try FreeBMD. That is more up-to-date, but still not complete. How do you mean the area from 1837 isn't right? |

Robyne Post details of what you are looking for and what you found on 1837. If there's no birth registered, then you will have to rely on baptism registers. Nell |

On 1837 its a bit hard to read, but i have what looks like Pattenfury??? vol 15 369 and S Colinne? 9 68. The area i need is the Stowe/Bury st Edmunds area. which i believe (from a sister) 4a sorry i cant be any more help. its all for Alfred Osborne born c1844 |

Potterspury and St Columb -- there's a list of all the districts on the FreeBMD search page, though you can get minor variations There's also this one, spelt without an e but the district looks better Osborn Alfred 1844 Jan-Mar Stow 12 452 |

In 1844 they would still have been using the old volume numbers, and Bury St. Edmunds was volume number XIII (13) and Stow was volume number XII (12). They changed to 4a later. So I would reckon the one Robin found is the right one. Kate. |
