I am doing the 1871 census and puting it on to cd. Can some one help me??? 1871 census:Michael Mawson,Born 1832 durham, parish st giles, can you make out his occupation?? 1871census;John Swails born 1805durham st giles parish, can you make out his occupation??? Many thanks helenx

John is:- labourer to pensioner Sue

John - labourer +out pensioner (ie he was receiving pension at home rather than going into almshouses) I have one of these who was receiving an army pension but working to supplement it.

Hi Helen I think Michael Mawson was a Cartwright and Joiner, but I cant make out what John Swails did. Derek
