Thanks for that Ellen - makes me wonder if Jane was renamed Helen and the Blotter reg contained that - sort of like Jane [3] registered, Jane [2] Blotter reg shows alteration, Helen [1] new name. I can't see there being 3 children all in the same year, and St Cuthberts was where all the other children were done between 1826 & 1841. Trouble is I found a Jane Ellen Young who married at St Cuthberts with the same fathers name on the igi but I ran out of credits to check it out on Scot peeps. Josie |

Hi Josie I can't remember the exact definition in relation to genealogy, but the Blotter Register is 'a book containing daily records or transactions' Its basically just another register of events, I think usually kept by a particular church or parish. It MAY be that its the register of BMDs for another religion other than the established Church of Scotland, eg, Roman Catholic. Hopefully someone else more knowledgeable will give you a better explanation! Regards Ellen. |

1. Anyone know what this means? Under the parish I have got Canongate Blotter Reg. 2. Born to the same parents I have 3 entries - [1] Helen Young - 3/2/1828 - Canongate Edinburgh. [2] Jane Ellen Young - 3/2/1828 - Canongate Blotter Reg. and [3] Jane Ellen Young - 1/1/1828 - St Cuthberts Edinburg. All have no image against them so I can't view them, this has confused me?
