Hi , Deanna , Many thanks for your reply .... This name was passed down , word of mouth , from c 1850-60 in my father's family. No written record. According to my father some grandmother or other was born in 'Manturk..Menturk ' (my spelling ).. However , I have just come across this place-name on IGI ,whilst checking for a different gt/grandmother.and I wondered !!!! I'm thinking that over the years the pronounciation could have been lost ..I MIGHT be onto a winner !!! The ...gh isn't silent is it ???? fingers crossed .. Thanks again , Joyce |

Hubby is Irish, with a very strong accent. I hope I got it as right as you could handle it. the 'gh' does sound silent when Allan says it, but it still has a 'chuch' to it!!! lol :-D) O.M.G. I'm making it worse for you. Deanna x |
