I am trying to find Willliam Martin born 1831 in Tilsey, Surrey possibly living with his father edward martin and mother fanny martin, still in Surrey. I was wondering if there was a census there that year as a friend told me there wasnt. thankyou

Of course there is a census for Surrey. Is this Tilsey in the Bramley area, or do you mean Titsey? Wishing you luck. My Martins (in the Bramley/Wonersh/Godalming area) are a complete and utter mystery. I think, like Topsy, they just growed.

East Surrey FHS have indexed Titsey: 1851 Census Index - Godstone RD Fiche - Ref: ESY-C50100 Covers HO/107-1600 including Bletchingley (Parish & Workhouse), Caterham, Chelsham, Crowhurst, Farleigh, Godstone, Horne, Limpsfield, Oxted, Tandridge, Tatsfield, Titsey, Warlingham and Woldingham. (2 microfiche) Price: £2.50 ( + 0.44 VAT in UK/EU) + postage West Surrey FHS have a surname only index, covering all their half of the county. On balance, I should think it is Titsey you want as it is a parish in its own right.

HI, I have the CD for 1851 West Surrey - I bought it online direct from the West Surrey Family History Society and it came very quickly. It is only the indexes but it is name indexed and indexed by parish. Brenda - what are your Martins' details or have you already tried the West Surrey CD? Caroline
