why does it say born about ??? why not correct yea

Hi Not sure about the USA ancestry but the UK bit for birth deaths & marriages isn't complete & there is another site where you can look up what years are not all there. I presume there should be a similar thing for the USA! Have you tried IGI? Penny

Yes I found it on the census so have looked for a birth for 2 years either side I should find it but it isnt on ancestry.com she was born in the USA

Are you getting this info from a census? The info given on a census is age. So it depends when they were born to when the census was taken, it will either be one year or the next. EG 1881 census - Joe Bloggs age 40 therefore he was born either 1841 or 1840 depending when his birthday is. Hope this makes sense!! Penny

When it says 'about' on the IGI it means they didn't know exactly when, but guessed it to be 25 or 20 years before they married.

I am trying to research a couple of people born in the USA how do you get a copy of their birth if it says born about 1872 for instance
