hi all can someone please tell me if there is a way i can look for a marriage possibly late 1920s to 1930s with out paying to look on 1837 again, been on there once before ,and it takes for ever when you have to go through the quarters and the years, also been on archives site looking for divorce records, have been told on this site before to use j77 as the reference, which i did,but either im thick or im doing it wrong, any advice,i would love to hear it, thanks

Lesley If you put what you are looking for in your thread title, it is helpful. As you are in Australia, I have bad news. The only way to find bmds after 1910 is to go on www 1837online. If you were in England you could check the GRO indexes on microfiche. As for divorce records, the J77 you quoted is a reference for documents at Kew (the National Archives, formerly the Public Records Office). The only way to see them is to go to Kew. But as it says on the website: ' To find whether there is a divorce record at The National Archives which may be of interest, search the Catalogue entering the surname as a keyword and J 77 as the series reference.' so at least you can find out if there is anything to see at Kew. nell

No worries! A tip - from personal experience I have found you get a much better response if you have something emotionally appealing in your thread title like: aarrrggh! I can't find him! or going bonkers! nell
