I have a second marriage of my g g grandmother and either a Robert Jones or an Edward Jones in 1901 and these apparently had 2 more children, Is there anyway of finding these children?

Hi Tracey I think the only way of searching is by trawling through the bmd/ 1837 do you have any names for the children? Julie

You can look in the GRO birth indexes for babies with the right surname born in the right registration district, but to confirm they are right you would have to order the birth certs (stating you only want them if mother's maiden name is right). After 1911 the mother's maiden name is included in the GRO index. Just twigged surname is Jones. Uh-oh! nell

On the Jones birth certs the mothers name should be given as: XX Jones, formerly Davies, late Pratt. So ''formerly'' refers to the maiden surname and ''late'' refers to the previous married name. It is probably best to ask for a check on the maiden name as, if the registrar had been to the pub on the day she went to reg the birth of the child, he may have forgotten to ask if she had been previously married, but is pretty likely to have remembered to ask for her maiden name!! I take it we are in Wales for this family??! Trouble is, there are going to be a lot of Jones births for you to look at and you are still charged for they do the ref check for, at even if they are wrong (about £4 from memory). Happy Hunting!! Gwyn in Kent

The certificate for the marriage to Mr Jones should give his address. It is possible that the family settled near there and children may have that area's registration district, on the birth index. What was his job. does that help to limit the area? How old were the older children? Do you know where they went to school? Gwyn (with JONES on both sides of my family, I'm trying to think of ways to narrow your search)

thanks gwynn, I only knew that she had remarried from a handwritten memo written by the grandaughter of mary pratt, so I looked up marriages and found name ofmary Pratt, to Jones 1901, pwllheli, the note doesnt mention names :-( but as she was about 43/44 at the time of new marriage I would say she had them pretty quickly!
